quarto de banho não tinham
para se poderem banhar.

A washtub made of wood
for people to wash themselves
for there wasn't any bathroom
where they could bathe.

Um caldeirão de três pés
sobre a grelha colocado
debaixo lenha de faia
onde o fogo era ateado.

A three feet cauldron
over the grate was placed
beech firewood underneath
to light the fire.

Meu Pico de casas rústicas,
só de pedra construídas,
feito o lar da igual pedras
pra cozinhar as comidas.

My Pico of rustic houses,
only made of stone,
and of the very same stone
a fireplace to cook.

E na loiça da figueira
caldo quente fumegava
junta a família à ceia
sua fome saciava.

And in the “figueira” crockery
the soup was steaming hot
while the family gathered for supper
to satisfy their hunger.

Utensílios de madeira
nas cozinhas se usavam
selha ou amassadeira
onde as massas se amassavam.

Wooden utensils
were used in the kitchen
wooden pail or kneading table
to knead the dough.

Com tanta dificuldade
que nesse tempo havia
os velhos e a mocidade
viviam em harmonia.

Those were hard times
we had back then
but the elderly and the young
lived in harmony.

O redondinho tijolo
muitas vezes era usado
rápido cozia um bolo
que ficava bem rosado.

And in this little round brick
so often used
a cornebread would quickly bake
and take on a lovely colour.
